The Lead Certified Surgical Technologists are individuals with specialized education who function as members of the surgical team in the role of scrub person.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates ability to meet requirements of job description and functions successfully in role of staff CST. Demonstrates ability to function as resource for specialty service providing support to clinical staff, sharing knowledge and experiences. Works collaboratively with respective service care coordinator RN ensuring appropriate supplies, equipment and staffing are available for procedures. Develops scrub protocols and develops training expectations for specialty services. Serves as role model in behavior engaging staff in teamwork and growth of specialty. Works collaboratively with surgeons with procedure needs and preparation. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other departments including but limited to SPD, storeroom, purchasing, biomedical, radiology and other departments. Presents self as role model for professional behavior and demonstrates ability to engage staff and surgical teamwork. Demonstrates knowledge of ethical care, patients' rights and supports culture of safety through verbalization of safety concerns.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Sit up to 1 hour per day. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; possibly 6 hours at a time. Walk up to 8-10 hours per day; up to 2 hours at a time. Continuously required to use manual dexterity for handling and twisting/turning. Consistently lift and carry objects up to 10 lbs.; frequently lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs.; frequently push objects up to 100+ lbs. (i.e. camera carts, microphones, storage carts, etc). Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must have the ability to move and respond quickly. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. Depth perception necessary. Ability to tolerate visual monotony.
EDUCATION
High School diploma required. Completion of a certified Surgical Technologist program and passing a Surgical Technologist Certification Exam required. If not certified upon hire, certification is required within one year of hire date. Continuation of certification by attending seminars, workshops and continuing education programs accepted by the Surgical Technologist Organization.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Planned for 4-6 week orientation to surgical suite by Clinical Specialist, on-going in-service programs and on-the-job experiences with individual preceptors.
