Surgical Scrub Technician Summary of Responsibilities Responsible for assisting the physician and registered nurse in rendering professional care to patients undergoing surgical procedures within the center in accordance with established procedures. Works under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff and exhibits teamwork characteristics. Surgical Scrub Technicians List of Responsibilities/Duties Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury. Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor, and documents the same. Maintains equipment and supplies to include: Cleaning and disinfection of equipment, Operating and troubleshooting specialized equipment and patient monitoring equipment and Anticipating and assisting with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies. Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibility for own professional growth and development. Participates with in-service opportunities and staff meetings. Accepts direction from supervisor or physicians and adheres to established routines. Maintains patient's rights to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors/family or client. Maintains flexibility and performs other duties as required. Refers situations beyond ability or function to proper person. Reports errors of commission/omission. Participates in performance improvement program. Assists in completion of log book. Observes universal precautions. Handles patient specimens per procedure. Assists with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by operating room nurse. Explains procedures to patients, places patient at ease and offers reassurance as needed. Prepares specimen containers and maintains adequate supply. Performs other tasks and duties as directed by the clinical director or physician that are within their legal limitations. Keeps all working areas clean, neat and stocked. Cleans rooms after each patient and leaves ready for next patient. Prepares patients, as requested by physician, according to type of procedure. Providing necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for various operative procedures according to established ambulatory surgery center routines and the routine of the surgeon. Maintains supplies and equipment. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements High school diploma or GED. Graduate of surgical technology program. Certification in surgical specialty. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. One or more years of related work experience in the operating room. Ophthalmology experience preferred. Membership in local, state and national surgical societies is preferred.
