How you'll contribute A CST who excels in this role: Prepare the operating room and surgical suite prior to procedures by setting up sterile fields, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Inspect, test, and verify the functionality and sterility of surgical instruments and equipment prior to use to ensure patient safety. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and supplies in a timely and accurate manner during surgical procedures. Maintain accurate and ongoing counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other surgical materials before, during, and after procedures to prevent retained surgical items. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment, including cleaning and turnover between cases in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and performance improvement initiatives as assigned task. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred. Experience A minimum of six months of on-the-job experience in a surgical, perioperative, or healthcare setting required. Certifications A national CST certification is mandatory.
