Job Summary and Qualifications Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor for the Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, or a Licensed Vocational Nurse the Unit Secretary provides a variety of clerical activities as well as accommodative services to the adolescent, young adult, middle adult, and older adult patients admitted for medical/surgical problems. The Unit Secretary supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff and a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Unit Secretary will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Unit Secretary must be able to assess his/her own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Unit Secretary will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and inservices. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area. Adheres to policies on appropriate access Respects patient confidentiality Uphold code of conduct Conforms to hospital dress code for nursing department. Arrives to work on time and initiates work in a timely manner. I am willing to adjust personal schedule in case of workload fluctuations or departmental needs. In collaboration with licensed staff, organizes patient care and general unit activities to accomplish required functions. Applies knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the lifespan to identify patient and family requirements relative to age specific needs. Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and their family with a focus on the developmental level of the patient and their level of understanding.
