Job Title:
Telemetry Monitor Technician Job Description The Telemetry Monitor Technician observes and interprets basic cardiac rhythms and common dysrhythmias, monitors for mechanical malfunctions, and supports the nursing unit with essential clerical tasks. This role facilitates clear communication among clinical teams, accurately transcribes physician orders, expedites interdepartmental services, and maintains organized and up-to-date records to support safe and efficient patient care. Responsibilities Continuously observe telemetry monitors for basic cardiac rhythms and common dysrhythmias, promptly recognizing and interpreting changes. Catch and post ectopy and other rhythm abnormalities in accordance with unit protocols. Run rhythm strips on all monitored patients per unit protocol and ensure they are accurately labeled and filed. Measure intervals on rhythm strips according to unit standards and document findings clearly. Immediately notify the assigned nurse of any significant changes in cardiac rhythm or patient status observed on the monitor. Perform basic maintenance on telemetry equipment, including changing graph paper, ensuring paper is installed and ready for writeouts, and checking and replacing batteries as needed. Prepare telemetry monitors for new and admitted patients, correctly labeling each patient window with the assigned patient's name and room number. Clean and store telemetry units from discharged patients, ensuring equipment is ready for the next use. Stock and restock telemetry supplies at the station, maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support uninterrupted monitoring. Dust and clean monitors and the telemetry area as needed, keeping the work area orderly and functional. Perform defibrillator and crash cart checks, as well as other cart checks as needed on each assigned station per shift, and accurately record all cart checks. Carry out general clerical duties at the nursing station, including maintaining neat and organized charts, thinning charts when appropriate, and ensuring records are current. Keep the nurses' station neat and tidy, with the desk area free of clutter and wastebaskets emptied by the end of the shift. Facilitate communication between nursing, physicians, and other departments, including the transcription of physician orders and expediting interdepartmental services. Assist in the orientation and training of new ward clerks and monitor technicians as needed. Perform other related tasks as assigned to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Essential Skills Proven ability to interpret basic cardiac rhythms and recognize common dysrhythmias. Telemetry experience with direct responsibility for monitoring cardiac rhythms. Decontamination experience in a clinical or related environment (required). Proficiency in aseptic technique to support safe handling of equipment and supplies. Ability to perform basic maintenance on telemetry monitors, including paper changes and battery replacement. Strong attention to detail in catching and posting ectopy, measuring intervals, and documenting rhythm strips. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and composure. Competence in general clerical tasks, including record keeping, chart maintenance, and order transcription. Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia course. Additional Skills & Qualifications At least 1 year of telemetry experience preferred. Experience performing defibrillator and crash cart checks and documenting results. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with nurses, physicians, and interdepartmental staff. Organizational skills to maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient nursing station and telemetry area. Ability to assist in training and orienting new ward clerks and monitor technicians. Commitment to following established protocols, safety procedures, and quality standards. Work Environment This position works on a PM shift schedule, typically from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with rotating weekends. The role is based at a nursing station within a clinical care setting and involves continuous use of telemetry monitors, defibrillators, crash carts, and related medical equipment. The environment is fast paced and requires sustained focus on multiple patient monitors, frequent communication with nursing staff and other departments, and regular movement within the unit to check equipment, restock supplies, and maintain a clean, organized work area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Bernardino, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.67 - $26.67/hr.
