JOB SUMMARY
Monitor Technicians assists the nursing staff in monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond quickly and appropriately in the notification of nursing staff is essential. These position duties include transcription, interpretation, and clerical duties. Job Requirements Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent. Required Skills Satisfactorily completed Basic Life Support (BLS) program. Successfully complete Electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation course and able to score 100% on rhythm strip exam required within 6 weeks in position. Minimum Work Experience Demonstrates ability to perform duties in a calm, mature manner.

Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate assessments and planning of care for patient population served. Demonstrates competency and knowledge of appropriate equipment for patient population served. Demonstrates appropriate airway management and suctioning technique for patient population served. Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect for patient population served and takes measures to report them according to protocol. Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury in the patient population served. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the proper technique for the administration of medication for the patient population served. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate technique to obtain vital signs and is able to interpret norms for the patient population served. Demonstrates knowledge of location and use of emergency equipment and drugs for the patient population served. Provides education to patient/family based on identified learning needs of the patient population served. Essential Job Functions
  • Promptly responds to monitor alarms.
  • Promptly reports significant changes in rate and rhythm to nurse.
  • Ability to run continuous monitoring during a patient being resuscitated
  • Demonstrate initiative in daily performance of job duties: Patient Data
  • gathers, reports and documents pertinent patient data (monitor cardiac rhythms and demonstrates ability to accurately interpret EKG rhythm strips, recognizes and reports abnormal finding immediately to the nursing staff and accurately documents findings)
  • Maintains competency for services performed and equipment utilized
  • Demonstrates professionalism and initiative in the daily performance of job duties and assists with necessary record keeping: Assignment
  • Readily accepts duties and tasks, completing them with necessary record keeping Post EKG rhythm strips per facility policy and procedure Maintains records of assignment of telemetry units to prevent loss Records heart rhythms, rates, etc. in log as per facility policy and procedures Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Actively participates and assists with quality improvement activities and demonstrates work quality and thoroughness: Performance improvement
  • maintains current job knowledge and awareness of quality improvement
  • gathers data relative to telemetry patients Joint Commission/ Regulatory standards
