Job Summary The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Essential Functions Understands and adheres to WPH Policies and procedures Measures and interprets patients' heart rhythms Builds a report consisting of a baseline strip for each shift and any ectopy in BedMaster for approval and submission into the EMR by the RN Initiates and discontinues monitoring on admission, transfer, or discharge Performs configuration as necessary Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer, and discharge, of patient information from Central Telemetry Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm Orients and mentors new staff members Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Biomedical Engineering as appropriate Gives report to oncoming shift Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry box, lead wires, and pulse ox Reports defective equipment and failures to biomedical engineering Adheres to HIPPA compliance of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff Responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of White Plains Hospital. Performs other duties as requested. Qualifications High School Required or GED less than 1 year Heart Rhythm Interpretation experience Preferred Heart Rhythm Interpretation preferred (Low proficiency) BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association within 180 Days Required Successful Completion of EKG Course (WPH) within 90 Days Required White Plains Hospital Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer.
