Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The primary purpose of the Pretest Unit Tech is to assist with the processing of patients through the Pretest department by providing patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and perform duties of venipuncture, EKG, stocking, chart building, patient registration, and other patient care duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Reports to charge nurse to receive instructions for the shift Escorts patients from waiting room to POC Obtains, height, weight, and vital signs from patients upon their arrival to the department Draw blood work, obtain urine sample, complete EKG as ordered Orders appropriate lab work in computer Assists staff nurse with additional duties as needed or as delegated. Maintain current knowledge of computer systems Compile necessary chart requirements and build patient charts when time allows. Communicate tactfully with surgeon offices to request necessary paperwork Answer all phone calls and direct customers appropriately. Other duties and tasks as assigned. Job Requirements Maintain current, active BLS certification through the American Heart Association. High school graduate, minimum 18 years old. Medical tech and venipuncture experience preferred. Understands and adheres to all policies and regulations. Ability to handle public tactfully. Displays a positive attitude of interest and respect for people. WORKING CONDITIONS
Normally works eight hours a day, M-F. Shifts vary to provide coverage and meet the needs of the unit. Lunch periods and breaks are assigned and coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate departmental coverage. Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day. Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours.
