Job Description

Full-Time Telemetry Tech | UPMC Hamot UPMC Hamot is seeking a Full-Time Telemetry Tech to join our Telemetry Operations Center, which supports the entire hospital. This team works closely with nursing staff to ensure patients are safely and continuously monitored.
Schedule:
Rotating shifts: 7:00 a.m.
  • 7:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m.
  • 11:00 p.

Role:
The Telemetry Operations Center provides continuous cardiac monitoring for patients on telemetry units throughout the hospital. Telemetry Techs assist nursing staff by identifying and communicating rhythm changes in a timely manner to support patient safety.

Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
Instructs staff on nursing units to troubleshoot with minor problems (i.e., lead placement).Identifies own learning needs and sets personal education goals. Aware of quality improvement issues in the T.O.C. on the unit and contributes appropriately
COMMUNICATION
Maintains effective inter
  • and intra-departmental communications, both written and oral.
Interacts positively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff and other disciplines. Identified as positive, approachable and is consistently respectful and team oriented. Identifies and communicates patient information to the next shift and ensures effective handoff. Promotes a positive image by not participating in gossip.
ENVIRONMENT
Maintains clean and safe environment by establishing routine schedules for cleaning the TOC area. Provides routine maintenance to the telemetry equipment and troubleshoots minor problems. Identifies problems and seeks resources to resolve problems within their control. Delivers correct telemetry reports to the appropriate nursing units. Files patient documents on the correct charts. PRACTICE
Interprets cardiac rhythm of patients on in
  • house telemetry.
Identifies normal cardiac rhythms and recognizes basic arrhythmias. Reports changes outside stated parameters to the appropriate nursing unit immediately. Is alert and responsive to urgent and emergency situations acting within established guidelines; informs responsible persons in case of emergencies. Maintains and updates each patient monitor record in a consistent and timely manner. Provides safe patient care. Obtains accurate patient data. Reports patient findings timely with attention to detail. Responds appropriately to delegated duties.
