Job Description

Position Summary The Sonography Technician performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support accurate medical diagnosis and treatment planning. This role requires strong technical skill, patient‑centered communication, and adherence to clinical and safety standards. The technician works closely with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure high‑quality imaging and exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities Perform Diagnostic Ultrasound Exams — Conduct abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, small‑parts, and other ultrasound studies based on provider orders and scope of certification. Prepare and Position Patients — Explain procedures, obtain relevant history, ensure patient comfort, and position patients to optimize imaging quality. Operate Ultrasound Equipment — Adjust settings, select appropriate transducers, and ensure proper image acquisition following established protocols. Document and Maintain Records — Capture images, annotate studies, enter clinical data, and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR. Assist Providers With Procedures — Support ultrasound‑guided biopsies, injections, and other interventional procedures as needed. Maintain Equipment and Supplies — Perform basic troubleshooting, coordinate maintenance, and ensure rooms are stocked and clean. Ensure Safety and Compliance — Follow ALARA principles, infection‑control standards, HIPAA requirements, and departmental policies. Support Workflow Efficiency — Prioritize exams, communicate delays, and collaborate with clinical teams to maintain smooth patient flow. Provide Patient Education — Answer questions, address concerns, and ensure a positive patient experience.
Qualifications Education:
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (CAAHEP‑accredited preferred).
Certification:
ARDMS or ARRT(S) certification in one or more specialties (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular). BLS certification required.
Experience:
Prior clinical ultrasound experience preferred; new graduates considered depending on setting.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sonographic principles. Excellent communication and patient‑care skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with ultrasound equipment and
PACS/EHR
systems. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift and assist patients. Frequent standing, bending, and reaching. Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious materials (standard precautions apply). Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or on‑call shifts depending on clinic needs. Preferred Attributes Additional ARDMS credentials (e.g., RVT, RDCS). Experience in a fast‑paced outpatient environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to image quality. Team‑oriented mindset with excellent interpersonal skills.
Pay:
$29.47 - $35.49 per hour
