Position patients accurately for each exam, adjusting as needed to capture the required views and ensure patient comfort/safety. Confirm any special prep needed for the exam (per order/protocol) before scanning. Operate ultrasound/sonography equipment per manufacturer guidelines and department protocols, including scanners, linear/sector/endovaginal probes, pulse & color Doppler, and PACS. Review and interpret exam requests and instructions; complete daily scanner warm-up and quality control checks. Enter and maintain exam data by keying required patient information and test data into the ultrasound system to ensure accurate documentation of results. Perform a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound exams , including: Obstetrical (fetal anatomy, dating, growth, and evaluation for abnormalities/complications) Pelvic and abdominal/retroperitoneal (major organs; assist with localization for procedures like paracentesis when needed) Endovaginal Abdominal vascular flow documentation using spectral and color Doppler Thoracic (localize pleural effusion for thoracentesis) Small parts (scrotum, breast, cervical regions, thyroid, superficial soft tissues) Pediatric (neonatal/pediatric head/brain, abdomen, appendix, intussusception, spine, pelvis/hips, soft tissue, vascular interrogation) Vascular (arterial/venous disease evaluation, including carotids and DVT studies) Intraoperative ultrasound support (abdominal, pelvic, small parts, and vascular) Identify abnormalities and anatomic variants during scanning and determine when additional images/regions are needed to complete a thorough study. Communicate urgent/significant findings by advising the radiologist of exam results with a preliminary impression as appropriate, and notifying the ordering provider/physician when immediate attention or follow-up is required. Maintain equipment and supplies by cleaning ultrasound equipment per department standards, stocking needed exam supplies, recommending repairs when image quality is impacted, and making minor equipment adjustments when appropriate. Optimize image quality and technique by selecting/programming exam presets, recognizing artifacts vs. pathology, and working within equipment limitations. Stay current on best practices by reviewing new developments (journals/conferences when possible) and recommending workflow/process improvements to leadership. Respond to emergencies by recognizing situations requiring resuscitation (cardiac/respiratory arrest) and initiating required emergency measures per protocol.
What You Need Required:
Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Graduate from an accredited college or university (CAAHEP) 2+ years of clinical experience in diagnostic sonography Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) Ability to pass a government background/security check
