Job Summary:
The Ultrasound Tech is primarily responsible for providing support to the medical providers by performing ordered general diagnostic ultrasound services utilizing ultrasound equipment in compliance with regulatory requirements, including schedule coordination, patient positioning, image and data generation for medical provider evaluation, and incorporating images and data into patient medical records. The Ultrasound Tech is responsible for providing optimal service to patients, respecting and demonstrating patient confidentiality, being culturally competent and working within the established parameters of the job at all times. Assists in preparing patients for examinations and procedures; accurately takes and records vital signs; enters necessary medical data in EMR/EHR; stocks and maintains exam room. Assists before, during, and after examinations with patient and room care, sterile set up, and cleaning; assists with clerical duties or other duties as assigned in order to facilitate the continuum of care for each patient.
Licensure:
ARDMS (AB/OB) or AART - Sonography credential Current BLS provider card through American Heart Association required
Education :
Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field
Experience:
Minimum two years' experience in general ultrasound exams
Knowledge and Skills :
Ability to perform ultrasound exams in general ultrasound experience to include abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts. Assist physician with invasive exams. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing Ability to work flexible schedules and take call as needed Ability to recognize normal human anatomy, certain pathological conditions, and the ability to utilize ultrasound equipment to differentiate disease processes and artifacts. Strong organizational skills Problem solving skills Basic computer skills Demonstrates skills required to perform exams Practice and hospital based EMR system. Physical Demands -
Patient Care:
Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting. Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices. Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead. Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing. Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds. Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing of wheelchairs and medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces. Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
