Job Description

Utilizes non-invasive cardiovascular technology & diagnostic ultrasound equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiovascular conditions. Must be familiar with basic vascular conditions in order to identify any abnormalities and professionally communicate findings to physicians. Responsible for general patient chart review via our EMR. Develops & sustains productive patient relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructs patient in preparing for examinations & explains procedures to be performed Operates diagnostic vascular ultrasound equipment to record structure & flow characteristics of the vascular system Reviews & modifies each ultrasound exam during the procedure to obtain the highest quality images possible Performs calculations and measurements to appropriately focus the exam & obtain the data needed for the particular diagnosis Organizes processed images, measurements & calculations in a logical sequence for presentation to the physician for interpretation; consults with the cardiologist regarding the quality of the images & data obtained May read with physicians when appropriate Maintains appropriate quality control of all vascular ultrasound equipment; orders & stores supplies; prepares & maintains ultrasound records & files May perform other duties within the department as requested Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, & behaviors necessary to provide superior & culturally sensitive service to physicians, coworkers, patients & vendors
JOB KNOWLEDGE
1. 2 years previous experience as a Diagnostic Vascular Sonographer preforming Abdominal Aorta, Carotid, Renal Artery and Peripheral Arterial and Venous Exams. 2. Completion of an approved training program in Vascular Diagnostic Medical/Vascular Sonography & currently registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or CCI. 3. Ability to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment as well as preform related technical procedures
SKILLS:
1. Must demonstrate competency in all areas of vascular ultrasound. 2. Must have basic computer skills. 3. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, peers, patients, and physicians. 4. Must demonstrate good organizational and technical skills. 5. Must provide safe patient care, as well as the ability to display appropriate judgement and problem skills. 6. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional sonography to provide ongoing patient care. 7. Sill in identifying vascular problems 8. Skill in preparing records, writing reports and responding to correspondence
Education:
Two years (Associate degree) of college or equivalent or completion of an approved training program in Cardiac Diagnostic Medical Sonography & currently registered by the
ARDMS/CCI.
Must stay current with
ARDMS/CCI
registry. Current BLS/CPR required. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours on occasion and/or Saturday mornings.
