Summary:
To perform ultrasound procedures on patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.Responsibilities:
1. Performs the general duties of Ultrasound techCriteria A:
Performs scan of the appropriate, indicated area to obtain sonographic information Performs the general duties of Ultrasound techCriteria B:
Reviews and/or records pertinent patient history, supportive clinical data and any previous imaging studies Performs the general duties of Ultrasound techCriteria C:
Demonstrates anatomy through proper positioning and techniques and is knowledgeable of anatomical landmarks. Performs the general duties of Ultrasound techCriteria D:
Presents sonographic findings and pertinent patient information to Radiologists for interpretation 2.Patient Care Criteria A:
Technologist checks requests for ultrasound exam ordered and special instructionsPatient Care Criteria B:
Pleasantly greets, is courteous and cooperative to patients and their family members.Patient Care Criteria C:
Explains procedures and ultrasound to the patient and gets consent forms signed, if needed.Patient Care Criteria D:
Maintains patient confidentiality. 3. Patient records and paperwork.Criteria A:

Checks for correct charges on requests. Patient records and paperwork.Criteria C:

Checks that all the correct information is on the films. 4.Teaching/Education Criteria A:
Keeps current on Ultrasound procedures and methodology with journals, seminars and video-taped learning programs.Teaching/Education Criteria B:
Attends staff meetings and inservices.Teaching/Education Criteria C:
Assists in orientation/training of Radiology Residents in ultrasound equipment and proceduresTeaching/Education Criteria D:
Maintains registry from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers 5.Safety Criteria A:
Uses universal precautions at all times.Safety Criteria B:
Uses proper sterile technique when it applies.Safety Criteria C:
Lifts patients in a safely manner.Safety Criteria D:
Uses proper techniques when sterilizing equipment 6. Response to emergencies and assistance.Criteria A:
Responds quickly and effectively in the event of a medical emergency or problems that arise. Response to emergencies and assistance.Criteria B:
Has knowledge of emergency equipment and their locations. Response to emergencies and assistance.Criteria C:
Able to recognize when a patient needs medical assistance. 7. Stocking and inventoryCriteria A:
Assists in keeping ultrasound area stocked with necessary items 8. Equipment functionalityCriteria A:
Performs visual inspection of equipment and reports any malfunctions Equipment functionalityCriteria B:
Assesses film quality and reports any deviations from normal quality 9. Performs other duties as assigned. 10. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.Education Skills Experience:
HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Graduation from an accredited ultrasound program.Minimum Experience:
zero to six monthsDesired:
ARDMS Registered or must become registered within 1 year of hire. Certification by the ARDMS plus 3 years experience in ultrasound preferred.Working Conditions:
