This office Sonographer performs diagnostic maternal fetal medicine sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.Responsibilities:
Prepares office and ultrasound equipment and supplies; and coordinates office and ultrasound equipment and reporting system service, maintenance, and upgrades for quality assurance.Implements safety standards with low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
Assists MFM physician with ultrasound guided procedures and the collection of specimen for analysis and routing to the designated laboratory for analysis.
Demonstrates knowledge of the healthcare system's and MFM division's electronic medical records and ultrasound reporting system.
Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes images and identifies issues with the quality of images. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure if clinically appropriate.
Actively reports to MFM physician anomalies found in scan and obtains follow up images to complete evaluation of conditions noted. Follows established protocols for fetal evaluation and diagnosis.
Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and decision making.
Selects appropriate imaging parameters, modes and techniques to identify, investigate, evaluate and document pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data.
Performs routine and advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures at an advanced specialist skill level.
Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department. Actively participates with team in designing and implementation of policies and procedures.

Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, effective communications skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a high volume, complex environment and take next best steps as applicable. Reviews patients requisition, indication(s), and understands the type of exam required. Must have the discernment to discuss with medical staff and/or MFM physician(s) regarding clarification when necessary. Requires understanding of fetal anatomy (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), abnormalities and take an investigative approach to MFM ultrasounds. Must have basic understanding and be able to perform of Dopplers (umbical artery, middle cerebral artery, and ductus venosus); and know indications of each. Must be able to evaluate multiple gestations, chorionicity and amnionicity. Must be able to perform diagnotic transvaginal ultrasound. Ideally, experience with performing and interpreting 3D imaging. Must be able to perform guidance and assistance in diagnostic procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS). Must have an interest in continued medical education and actively stay up to date on ultrasound techniques. Must be able to travel between the different clinic sites (reliable transportation). May be required to work variable shifts or provide weekend coverage.Required Work Experience:
One (1) year of OBGYN sonography experience required. Experience in a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) practice preferred.Other Information:
Maintains three or more of the following registries and routinely performs the credentialed exams. All required certifications must be obtained within one year of hire/position.Required:
BLS, American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)(RCDS), Certification in OBGYN, and Nuchal Translucency (NT) Certification.Preferred:
