Job Description

Position Summary The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic sonographic examinations on patients in accordance with physician orders and established hospital protocols. The role ensures high-quality imaging, patient safety, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting body standards, including CMS Conditions of Participation and The Joint Commission requirements. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, small parts, OB/GYN, and vascular studies Prepare patients for procedures, explain testing process, and address patient concerns to ensure comfort and cooperation Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images Ensure accurate and detailed documentation of patient examinations Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure excellent patient care Be responsible for the high-level disinfection of all ultrasound probes after each use, following established protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient safety Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements Participate in continuing education and hospital-mandated training sessions. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required. Active certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Skills and Requirements Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to ultrasound imaging. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other staff. Excellent communication, organizational, and patient service skills. Must complete mandatory hospital orientation and annual competencies (HIPAA, infection prevention, safety, emergency codes). Must adhere to hospital dress code and professional standards of conduct. Must be able to lift/move patients and equipment as required. Working Conditions Hospital-based environment, primarily Imaging Department, with frequent patient contact. May involve standing for long periods, moving patients, and handling imaging equipment. May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood/body fluids, and cleaning agents; proper PPE is required.
