Job Description

Sonographer UPMC Western Maryland is seeking Sonographers to join their team of life-changers!

The Sonographer performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. They competently perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative, in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Responsibilities
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures, adhering to universal protocol standards
  • Interacts with patients and co-workers, displaying caring, listening, dignity, and respect
  • Communicates instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears
  • Ensures exams are properly coded, tracked, networked, and charges entered
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers and reviews patient history and physician orders
  • Documents patient history in electronic records as required
  • May handle High-Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment
  • Obtains and documents cross-sectional anatomy images, correlating measurements with data charts
  • Performs technical ultrasound procedures, using appropriate instrumentation and techniques
  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
