Capital Women's Care is a 150+ group of OB/GYNs located throughout Greater Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland. The Sonographer position plays a vital role in providing diagnostic imaging and monitoring prenatal and gynecological conditions for our patients. Sonographers are responsible for performing sonographic examinations using specialized equipment to visualize internal organs and tissues to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. Essential Functions Perform accurate OB/GYN ultrasound procedures and scans of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. Analyze and evaluate images assessing the quality and clarity of images. Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures. Effectively communicate and prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures and answering questions and concerns. Responsible for maintaining accurate records of ultrasound procedures, including patient data, images, and relevant information. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding electronic and paper medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential. Maintain equipment for proper sterilization and functionality. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Perform OB/Gyn ultrasound examinations using state-of-the-art equipment to create clear and accurate images of the female reproductive system, including fetal anatomy and development. Perform OB/GYN sonography in accordance with protocols with a high level of expertise and competency. The ability to complete tasks efficiently and on time. Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies and procedures. Ensure patient comfort and safety during ultrasound procedures, explaining the process and addressing any questions or concerns. Analyze ultrasound images, identify abnormalities, and communicate findings to physicians and other healthcare professionals to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information and meets the standard of medical necessity. Maintain accurate and detailed records of ultrasound procedures, patient information, and results in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Conduct patient clinical assessments and perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols. As necessary, acquire additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician. Identify and document any limitations to the sonography examination
  • Provide preliminary report of sonography examinations for use by the interpreting physician.
Stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and medical procedures by attending relevant conferences and participating in continuing education programs. Perform routine maintenance on ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is in optimal working condition. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly. Requirements Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification in OB/GYN required. Associates degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school. Proven experience in performing sonographic examinations. 3-5 years OB/GYN experience preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate diagnostic findings to patients and physicians. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, especially in the areas related to obstetrics and gynecology Knowledge of the different types of ultrasounds (2D, 3D, doppler) and when to use each for optimal results. Knowledge of patient privacy laws safety protocols, and infection control standards. Patient care skills to ensure the comfort of the patient and to provide emotional support. Ability to detect subtle abnormalities in ultrasound images and provide accurate information. Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:00am
