Position Title PRN Student Sonography Varies - PRN Bell Hospital Position Summary /
Career Interest:
The PRN Sonography Student Technologist under the direction of a credentialed Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Vascular Technologist utilizes high frequency sound waves (diagnostic ultrasound) along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis of a variety of conditions and diseases. The PRN Sonography Student Technologist is responsible for producing dynamic and static visual images of internal structures, analyses of hemodynamics of vasculature and communicating findings to the interpreting radiologist under the direction of a credentialed Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Vascular Technologist. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Must be readily available for shifts as needed outside of regularly scheduled program attendance requirements. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations utilizing cognitive sonographic skills to identify, document, and adapt examinations as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images and able to use judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Aware of limitations and seeks immediate direction from supervising sonographer/vascular technologist and communicates findings to the interpreting radiologist. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients. Introduces self to patient, properly identifies patient utilizing two identifiers, explains the sonographic examination being performed and answers any patient questions. Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient while they are in the student technologist's /sonographer's care. Notifies appropriate personnel if assistance is needed. Selects and operates a wide variety of imaging equipment in an efficient and safe manner, coordinates examinations in the most efficient order and perform exams in a sequence which minimizes the patient's stay in the hospital. Interacts with physicians and other technical staff to provide quality, safe and efficient care for the patient. Maintains cleanliness and supplies of hospital divisional area, fills gel bottles, empties laundry, completes High Level Disinfectant (HLD) checks and logs before each use as directed by HLD policy and stocks hospital division with linen. Assists supervisor as needed. Responsible for completion of mandatory educational assignments as provided by the supervisor. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience High School Graduate Currently enrolled and has completed two semesters in an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program including the didactic and clinical course work for the area specialty of the position. Preferred Licensure and Certification Registered Radiographer (ARRT).
