Job Description

Laurel OB/GYN is seeking a full-time sonographer
JOB TITLE
Sonographer
REPORTS TO
Clinical Supervisor
JOB OVERVIEW
Perform ultrasound diagnostic tests for patients.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Complete 30 CEU's specific to Sonography every 3 years per ARDMS requirements. The Ultrasound Technologist/Sonographer is a vital part of the patient care team. This position must provide accurate testing/procedures for patients as part of the patient's overall care team. This position also needs to provide the necessary education and information on procedures given to the patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
1. Perform ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. 2. Work with patients as part of the patient's care team to instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results. 3. Follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment. 4. Maintain ultrasound equipment in appropriate operating condition. 5. Maintain examination rooms and work areas. Stock all ultrasound supplies.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain accurate department records, reports and files as directed. 2. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 2. Work as a team member within the ultrasound department and all other departments. Participate in the practice care team meetings. 3. Document work processes as required. 4. Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program required.
Certification/Licensure:
1. RDMS certification in OBGYN.
Experience:
1. Minimum one (1) year experience as a sonographer in OBGYN is required; 3 years experience is preferred.
Skills:
1. Ability to operate ultrasound equipment. 2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 3. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. 4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management and peers. 5. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people. 6. Excellent telephone skills. 7. Ability to provide instructions to patients and educate patients on requested procedures.
Other Requirements:
1. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of imaging. 2. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 3. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in busy, stressful or emergency situations.
