Job Description

Summary:
Produces ultrasonic images and participates in special studies under the clinical direction of a Radiologist. Takes responsibility for image quality, patient care, safety, sterile technique and providing education for staff and students. Participates in other necessary activities in support of departmental operations. Participates in the ultrasound on-call rotation.
Responsibilities:
Produces Ultrasound images and examinations, abdominal scans and scans of other anatomical areas to include, but not limited to: Obtains history and/or examination data and evaluates for contraindicating conditions; Reviews pathology reports for correlation with sonograms; Performs water enemas and retrograde filling of bladder for pelvic scans, as needed; Takes and monitors vital signs; Adjusts and controls equipment; Reviews film for clinically acceptable results and releases patients; Prepares room by gathering and setting up equipment, supplies and contrasts; Assists physician during invasive procedures Applies AIUM guidelines and patient protection guidelines. Provides emotional support, comfort, general assistance and information to patients. Coordinates or collaborates with physicians and nursing staff. Operates and maintains sonographic equipment, film processors, computers and other departmental equipment. Documents to the patient record As assigned, provides instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of sonographic procedures to other employees, new employees and students. Performs clerical, darkroom, film processing, patient transportation and other miscellaneous functions in support of operations.
Other information:
Associates Degree - Graduation from an accredited school or program of Ultrasonography or Registered Radiologic Technologist with on-the-job training to meet qualifications. Current registration with ARRT with up to date continuing education credits American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers with up to date continuing education credits Registered in two ultrasound sub-specialties or registered in one ultrasound sub-specialty 1 year of experience in Healthcare/Medical - Healthcare-Other with Clinical Sonography experience
