The diagnostic medical sonographer works with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to patients. Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Prepares patients for ultrasound examination. Prepares patients for physicians. Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education related to medical ultrasound. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results. Ensures the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained. Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician. Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance. Maintains patient confidentiality. Maintains patient charts and records, and records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician. Code appropriately for services performed; submit completed billing work sheets daily. Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies. Maintain archives/records scans. Maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual's religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs. Comply with safety and security training and OSHA standards/regulations. Participates in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities. Participates in professional development activities and meetings. Maintains professional affiliations. Help to foster a "team approach" with co-workers throughout the Practice to benefit the entire organization and best serve the patients' needs. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with the practice Attendance Policy. Other duties assigned by manager(s) Qualifications and Experience An individual must possess a current/valid certification in diagnostic ultrasound. Satisfactory completion of an approved accredited ultrasonography educational program. Maintain or be eligible for certification the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements. OBGYN experience preferred Working Schedule Office hours are Monday-Friday from 7am-4pm. Shift start, and end times may flex based on schedule and location.
Locations in:
Bedford, Derry, Londonderry, and Windham. Person hired for position may rotate to all offices. Physical requirements Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend and twist throughout the workday. Lift more than 50 lbs. from floor to waist Lift up to 20 lbs. over the head Carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Push and pull with 30 lbs. of force. Visual acuity to assess image quality and observe physical changes in the patient's condition during routine sonographic procedures. Ability to discern color distinctions on the sonographic image. Speech and hearing to give instructions to and receive communication from patients, as well as distinguish audible Doppler signals while performing the sonographic examination. Manual dexterity to adjust machine controls, attach and adjust supportive devices, and assist patients into position for the sonographic procedure. Use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Ability to go up and down two flights of stairs throughout the day. Ability to uphold the stress of assisting patients of diverse backgrounds.
