Job Description

Days Position Summary:
Perform comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound imaging examinations in accordance with established guidelines and protocols under the supervision of a perinatologist for subsequent evaluation and treatment. Ob/Gyn high-risk obstetrical examinations include but are not limited to: comprehensive ultrasound examinations, nuchal translucency, fetal echocardiograms, Doppler assessment of the middle cerebral artery, umbilical artery, ductus venosus, uterine artery, biophysical profiles, and endovaginal scans. Competence in performing ultrasound-guided invasive procedures, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and other procedures required in Maternal-Fetal Medicine settings. Adherence to protocols and procedures in high-risk settings. Must be able to work independently and as a team with excellent communication skills. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:

    • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

    • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
    PATIENT SAFETY 3
    • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
    PATIENT SAFETY 4
    • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
    PATIENT CARE
    • Position and transfer patients comfortably
    PATIENT SAFETY 5
    • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
    PATIENT CARE
    • Perform ultrasound techniques and examinations including abdominal, obstetric, gynecological, small parts, and minor surgical procedures
    PATIENT CARE
    • Select and operate equipment; select proper technical factors based on individual patient needs assessment
    PATIENT CARE
    • Obtain patient history and clinical data for correlation with sonogram; maintain records of examination data and other pertinent information on patient
    SCHEDULING
    • Schedule cases to coordinate with other patient exams
    ENVIRONMENT
    • Maintain aseptic work area; maintain adequate supply levels
    • QUALITY
    • Perform quality assurance tasks in calibrating and adjusting equipment
    SUPPLIES
    • Assist designated supervisor in monitoring inventory
    TRAINING
    • Educate staff in didactic and/or clinical techniques of diagnostic sonography
    Qualifications Education:
    Essential:
    • Program Graduate Education specialization:
    Essential:
    • Ultrasonography CAAHEP Accredited (AMA)
    Experience:
    Essential:
    2 years directly related experience
    Nonessential:
    1 to 3 years OB/GYN and/or MFM experience
    Credentials:
    Essential:
    • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
    • Valid New Mexico Driver's License
    • UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit w/in 60 days
    • ARDMS or Ultrasound Cert from Amer Reg Radiologic Technolog
    • NM Med Imag & Rad Therapy Lic (NMMIRT)

    Fetal Echocardiography Physical Conditions:
    Medium Work:
    Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
