Job Description

Akicita Federal is hiring an Ultrasound Technician to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging services for the Indian Health Service (IHS) community in Pinon, AZ. This is a meaningful opportunity to apply your clinical expertise in an underserved rural setting, making a direct impact on the health outcomes of Native American patients. You will work on-site as part of a dedicated healthcare team committed to providing culturally responsive, patient-centered care. Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and musculoskeletal imaging as ordered by providers. Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image quality and patient safety throughout each examination. Document findings accurately and completely in the patient health record in accordance with facility protocols and applicable standards. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, positioning them appropriately, and addressing questions or concerns to promote comfort and cooperation. Communicate preliminary findings and escalate urgent or abnormal results to the ordering provider in a timely manner. Coordinate with nursing staff, physicians, and other clinical team members to support efficient scheduling and continuity of patient care. Maintain compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and quality assurance standards required by the facility and applicable regulatory bodies. Active registration or certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (e.g., ARDMS or equivalent credentialing body). Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification. Demonstrated clinical experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations across relevant modalities. Ability to work a full-time schedule (approximately 40 hours per week) at the Pinon, AZ facility. Must be able to provide documentation of education, credentials, and relevant clinical experience for credentialing review prior to start. National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) self-query report required as part of the qualification process.
What sets candidates apart:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Prior experience providing imaging services in a federally qualified health center, tribal health program, or other Indian Health Service facility. Familiarity with rural or frontier healthcare environments and the unique patient population and logistical challenges they present. Experience working within a multidisciplinary clinical team in a high-volume or resource-limited setting. Cultural competency or prior engagement with Native American communities.
