Job Description

Summary The diagnostic sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis. Experience Minimum of three months (RDMS) preferred. Education Graduate from an approved Ultrasonography program, certification eligible.
Certification Required:
ARRT with certification in Sonography or RDMS required within 1 year of hire. Essential Functions Performs the scanning examination requested by the referring physician, modifying the examination, depending on the findings demonstrated, and review the examination with the supervising radiologist. Assists the radiologist or the clinician in special procedures such as percutaneous fluid aspiration or biopsy procedures. Performs routine equipment checks for resolution and other quality control procedures, as necessary. Must be able to react quickly to emergency situations such as patient fainting, patient being unsteady while getting on to scanning table, if unsafe situation occurs (such as a fire), getting patient to safety and sounding alarm. Ability to work alone on shift or call and get job done in an efficient manner. Must be able to lift, push, reach, bend, stop and walk in order to care for patients. Must be able to perform a stand-pivot transfer with a patient. Other Duties Verifies images of exam and sends to PACS. Maintains an inventory of coupling agent, drugs and other supplies and requisitions and materials, as needed. Obtains sterile instruments, as needed, and returns them to central supply for sterilization and storage. Teaches ultrasound technique to student technologists. Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments, as appropriate. Must be able to work a variety of shifts and be in the call rotation on a scheduled basis. Able to be on call and in the department within 45 minutes after being called for a procedure.
