Description Ultrasonographer Educator Office of the SVC Health Sciences - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26001749) This opportunity is for an Ultrasound Technologist looking to expand beyond traditional image generation focusing on teaching, administration, clinical application, and supporting a growing integrated Point-of-Care Ultrasound curriculum at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Under the supervision of the Director of Center for POCUS Education, the applicant will provide organizational support for medical student bedside ultrasound logistics, including research protocols, workshop development, preparation, coordination, image workflow, quality assurance, and tracking medical student utilization of portable ultrasound machines. This is a full-time position, and the hired individual will work closely with the POCUS Center Director and Associate Director, however they should function independently for portions of the work week. Ultrasound Education Coordination Work with medical school educational leadership to successfully integrate ultrasound into the curriculum in four years Support use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and distribution, distribute content and backup data, as well as provide advanced troubleshooting Ensure all medical student ultrasound educational assignments meet deadlines verifying participation and completion of training material Schedule and coordinate ultrasound educational activities, including training sessions and meetings Arrange and run weekly POCUS office hours for medical students who want extra training and help coordinate make-up sessions for students who missed mandatory sessions Oversee setup and cleanup of rooms for training sessions and meetings, prepare all supplies for hands-on and assure equipment is in good working condition prior to the start of ultrasound scan sessions Ensure when necessary appropriate ultrasound live models are secured for each training session Ensure accurate maintenance of education and training records Perform related administrative duties such as recording and categorizing expenses and income, reporting balance sheets to supervisors, preparing invoices for equipment and users, and ordering supplies Participate in committee meetings, take minutes, and disseminate information to staff and faculty Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products preferred Monitor scanning sessions and provide evaluation forms for users to complete Monitor and control daily operations and assist with other special projects or initiatives Train faculty and any key staff in operational aspects of bedside ultrasound Facilitate all administrative documents and activities of CME courses. Ultrasound Machine Technical Support Assist students in image acquisition, including the technical points of image optimization Understand the relationship of depth, gain, frequency, zoom, tissue harmonics, Doppler, and transducer selection as it relates to image optimization Understand the relationship of depth, gain, frequency, zoom, tissue harmonics, Doppler, and transducer selection as it relates to image optimization Interface with ultrasound manufacturers to resolve maintenance issues related to the machine, transducers, and image software archival system and maintain record of repairs Understand the use and operation of different ultrasound machines ranging from handheld units to cart-based systems Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging applications of bedside ultrasound, including keys to their successful implementation Install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of ultrasound systems as directed by manufacturer support Become an expert user of the high-fidelity POCUS trainer manikins utilized by the School of Medicine- the BodyWorks Eve and Vimedix, and assist with design and administration of case-based evaluations Maintain data confidentiality and security Attend conferences to stay current with ultrasound technology. Scholarly Component Support the development and execution of scholarly activities related to POCUS, including but not limited to the development of pre- and post-assessment tools, background literature reviews on POCUS in medical education. Marketing and Public Relations for Ultrasound Program at UPSOM Responsible for ultrasound program marketing and information management, including brochure and website development and maintenance Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students and others who utilize ultrasound equipment Photo and video-journal the medical student ultrasound experience. Assist with SOM offices and student community outreach programs to demonstrate impact of bedside ultrasound in medical education. Job Summary Performs ultrasound imaging services on human and/or animal subjects. Operates sonography equipment and applicable software and assumes responsibility for the safety and mental and physical comfort of patients and animal subjects. Assists researchers in preparations of programs, meetings, and presentations. Essential Functions Ability to follow teaching, administration, and clinical application duties. Ability to provide organizational support for all medical student bedside ultrasound logistics, including research protocols, workshop development, image workflow, quality assurance, and tracking medical student utilization of portable ultrasound machines. Physical Effort Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time, Ability to lift up to fifty pounds occasionally.
