Description:
Mission:
Virginia Urology will provide access to individualized, quality, and compassionate urological care from a highly specialized and diverse teams while maintaining a fulfilling work environment.
Overall Objective:
The Ultrasound Technologist / Sonographer - PRN is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Further, they are responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA), and maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
Principal Activities and Expected End Result:
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies. Coordinates work schedule with Director and/or scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care. Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided. Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. Organizes daily work schedules and performs related clerical duties as required. Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation. Provides cross-functional support as business needs evolve.
Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited Current CPR Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty as appropriate Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate Active Virginia state license preferred Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment Ability to follow established Departmental procedures
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
Able to work independently while closely coordinating with clinical staff Excellent interpersonal communications skills to manage patients and family members in an empathetic manner Strong listening skills and the ability to build rapport with patients Maintain a professional demeanor

Radiology Physical Requirements:
High level of activity, standing, walking, pushing, and bending minimally 5 hours per day. Requires ability to move equipment and position & transfer patients. Lift and move 20lbs without assistance, lift and move greater than 20 lbs. with assistance Visual and auditory acuity Using mouse and keystrokes to enter and manage patient data
Other Information:
