Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
The Sonographer (Ultrasound) Technologist's responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following: The Sonographer (Ultrasound) Technologist will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. Will perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasonic examinations as appropriate to the discipline. Proficient at using diagnostic ultrasound to provide cross-sectional evaluation of all soft tissue organs in the abdomen and pelvis, including liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, aorta, uterus, ovaries, adnexa, lower and upper extremity venous dopplers; small parts to include thyroid, neck, testicles; pediatrics to include: neonatal heads, pyloric stenosis, appendix, intussusception, hips, and spines; Obstetrics to include: 1st and 2nd Trimester. Provide a variety of sonographic examinations for a patient population that ranges from infants to geriatrics. Work independently and be able to recognize situations or abnormalities that require the radiologist's immediate attention or direct observation in real-time. Consult with staff physicians from a variety of specialties, such as obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, and surgery, regarding the patient's pertinent past medical history, preliminary diagnosis, and condition, so it correlates with the ultrasound examination. Recognize normal anatomic variants, and recognize anatomic changes created by medical and surgical procedures. Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms that have a direct bearing on the patient's condition because of an adverse reaction to contrast media. Inform the radiologist of any condition requiring attention. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures in critical situations, such as respiratory or cardiac arrest. Use critical thinking to allow for a safe patient environment and adjust exam presets or scanning techniques to multiple patient presentations (i.e., body habitus, modes of transportation, presenting pathology, anatomical variants, mental and emotional status, history of abuse or trauma, etc.)Qualifications:
One year of experience within the last two years as a sonographer. Possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Possess active certification and good standing with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with registries in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB). ARDMS registries in Vascular Technology (VT) and/or Pediatric Sonography (PS) are preferred. Must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasound or diagnostic medical sonography programResume Requirements:
Chronological experience listed with gaps explained Certifications and licenses Must be able to pass a WJM and VA Medical Center background check. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
