About Us Performance Equine Veterinary Services is a leading equine veterinary practice in Ocala, Florida, dedicated to helping horses achieve optimal health, recovery, and peak athletic performance. Founded by Dr. Alberto Rullan, our practice combines cutting-edge diagnostics and innovative treatments with a highly personalized approach to care. We specialize in lameness evaluations, surgery, rehabilitation, imaging, regenerative medicine, and sports medicine for equine athletes across a wide range of disciplines. Through our partnership with the Equine Performance Innovative Center (EPIC), we provide state-of-the-art rehabilitation and recovery support designed to accelerate healing and improve long-term outcomes for our patients. The Role We're looking for a skilled and passionate Sports Medicine Veterinarian to join our team. In this role, you'll diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal injuries and performance-related conditions in equine athletes - with a focus on long-term soundness, rehabilitation, and peak athletic performance. You'll work alongside trainers, farriers, rehabilitation specialists, and horse owners to develop customized treatment plans and leverage advanced veterinary technologies to deliver exceptional patient outcomes. What You'll Do Perform comprehensive lameness evaluations and equine sports medicine examinations Diagnose and manage musculoskeletal injuries, performance limitations, and rehabilitation cases Interpret diagnostic imaging including radiographs, ultrasound, MRI, and CT Develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans based on patient condition, discipline, and performance goals Administer regenerative therapies including PRP, stem cell therapy, biologics, and joint treatments Collaborate with rehabilitation teams, specialists, trainers, farriers, and owners on treatment progression and recovery Utilize advanced diagnostic technologies and motion analysis tools to evaluate soundness and performance Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment protocols based on clinical findings Educate clients on injury prevention, conditioning, rehabilitation timelines, and performance management Maintain accurate medical records, imaging reports, and treatment documentation Support emergency and urgent care situations involving sports medicine patients Participate in continuing education and contribute to clinical protocol development
What We're Looking For Required:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) Active veterinary license in the applicable state Strong understanding of equine performance medicine, biomechanics, and rehabilitation Excellent diagnostic, communication, and client-facing skills Collaborative mindset and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Preferred:
Experience in equine sports medicine, lameness, rehabilitation, or performance medicine Internship or residency training in equine medicine or sports medicine Experience with diagnostic imaging, regenerative therapies, and rehabilitation planning Experience working with equine athletes across competitive disciplines Board certification or active pursuit of specialty certification in sports medicine or rehabilitation Physical Requirements Ability to safely handle and work around horses in clinical, rehabilitation, and performance environments Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform clinical procedures for extended periods Ability to lift and transport veterinary equipment and supplies Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions Ability to respond to emergency and urgent care situations as needed Equal Opportunity Employer Performance Equine Veterinary Services is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
