Job Description
Partner Veterinarian / Owner in Residence True.
Vet Heartland |
Vet Heartland is our newest acquisition: a beloved Bartlett practice with three decades of clients, reputation, and roots in the community. We've stepped in as stewards. Now we're looking for the veterinarian who's going to lead it into its next chapter. Not as an associate. Not as a 'medical director' with a fancy title and no real authority. As a partner, with an ownership stake from day one and a clear, structured path to owning the practice outright. This is what real ownership looks like in modern veterinary medicine. And you can be one of the first to step into it. A Practice with Foundation. A Future to Build. The hardest part of starting a practice is everything that happens before the first client walks through the door. Heartland already has 30 years of that work behind it. The community knows the name. The clients are loyal. The foundation is real. Now comes the modernization. The systems, the technology, the team experience, the client journey, the operating cadence. You step in as the medical and operational leader of that transformation. You inherit the trust. You build the future. This is rare in veterinary medicine. Most ownership opportunities are either "buy this exhausted practice with no support" or "join this corporate group and rent a title." This is neither. This is real ownership of a real practice with real backing. The Opportunity, in Plain Terms You start with a minority equity stake in True.
Vet Heartland. Real ownership. Real upside. From there, we walk a defined runway together. As you grow as a clinician, leader, and operator, your equity position grows with you, all the way to the option to buy out the practice and own it outright. You don't need a war chest of cash to start. The model is structured around the reality of an early-career veterinarian, with an earn-in approach that rewards the work, the growth, and the contribution to the practice. You inherit 30 years of community trust. You build the next 30 on your terms. You're Not Doing This Alone The hardest part of practice ownership has always been the parts they don't teach you in vet school: hiring, P&L, vendor contracts, marketing, capacity planning, culture, the business of medicine. That's where True.
Vet steps in. As an Owner in Residence, you get: True Vet Potential Our in-house leadership and ownership development program. Real curriculum, real mentorship, real operators (including direct work with founder Dr. Keith True) teaching you how to run a hospital like an owner. From day one, you're learning the muscle that makes ownership sustainable. Back-Office Support HR, accounting, payroll, marketing, IT, vendor management, recruiting, and operational systems handled at the platform level. You get the leverage of a large practice group without giving up the autonomy of independent ownership. A Community of Owners You're not the only one building this. You join a growing network of True.
Vet partner-veterinarians who share what's working, troubleshoot what isn't, and cheer each other on. Independent ownership without the isolation that usually comes with it. Group-Scale Benefits Better vendor pricing, better insurance, better tech stack, better hiring reach, better continuing education. The kind of advantages typically available to large practice groups, available to you because you partnered with us. What You'll Do Lead the Medicine. Practice high-quality care across wellness, urgent care, surgery, and dentistry, supported by a team of CVTs and assistants who are paid well, trained well, and trusted to operate at the top of their license. Lead the Hospital. Set the tone for culture, client experience, and clinical standards. Help shape the team. Make the calls that owners make. Modernize What's Already Great. Bring digital records, smart scheduling, telehealth, and a tech-forward client experience to a practice that already has the foundation. Improve the systems. Elevate the workflow. Build the version of this hospital that the next 30 years deserve. Learn the Business. Work directly with experienced operators through True Vet Potential. Build fluency in everything from financial statements to capacity modeling to local marketing. Build the Movement. Help shape the Owner in Residence playbook itself. You're early. The way you build Heartland helps define how the next True.
Vet location does it, and the one after that. Who We're Looking For The early-career veterinarian (roughly 2 to 6 years out) who: 1. Loves the medicine AND wants to learn the business 2. Has the ambition to own and the humility to be coached 3. Sees the future of veterinary medicine clearly and wants to help build it 4. Believes a great clinic can serve clients beautifully AND treat its team beautifully (Service Is Sacred. Team Is Sacred Too.) 5. Wants to get in early on something that's going to matter You don't need ownership experience. We'll teach you. You don't need a war chest of cash. The model is built around real-life early-career veterinarians.
