Spay/Neuter Veterinarian Reports to:

Vet Techs, Vet Assistants, Clinic Assistant Part Time/Contract (1-2 days/week) Paid per procedure Summary The High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HVNS) Veterinarian is a key member of our mission-driven team, dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation and improving animal welfare in our community. The veterinarian is responsible for the daily surgical care of all patients, performing high-quality, high-volume sterilization surgeries, and overseeing pre- and post-operative care. This role requires an experienced and efficient surgeon who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Job Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of veterinary care, including pre- and post-operative care, anesthetic administration and monitoring, emergency care, restraint, and treatment. Adhere to established medical protocols and work collaboratively with the veterinarian of record regarding medical policies and procedures. Perform pre-surgical examinations and high-quality spay/neuter surgeries while maintaining low complication rates and adherence to established clinic protocols; oversee the administration of vaccinations and microchipping for public clients through the Tails Spay/Neuter Clinic. Perform 30+ spay/neuter surgeries per day with an approximately 50/50 cat-to-dog ratio. Be comfortable performing pediatric spay/neuter surgeries at 8 weeks of age, in-heat spays, spays of pregnant cats, large dog surgeries, cryptorchid neuters, and hernia repairs. Manage spay/neuter complications and provide medical consultation to clients and adopters as needed. Monitor surgical outcomes and follow best practices to ensure high-quality patient care and low complication rates. Oversee and manage medical support staff on a daily basis. Work with veterinary interns (when present at the clinic) to ensure proper practices are followed and students receive appropriate educational opportunities. Maintain accurate medical records and controlled substance logs in accordance with federal, state, and DEA regulations. Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation of all patient medical records. Requirements Must possess a DVM degree and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Illinois. Previous experience in a high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter environment preferred. Maintain professional liability insurance throughout the term of employment/contract. Previous shelter medicine experience preferred. Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive surgical procedures, lift and restrain animals with assistance from staff, and work in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ability to collaborate with referral veterinarians and specialty practices when advanced medical care or consultation is required.
Pay:
$1,000.00 - $2,500.00 per day
