00 Salary Commensurat Research And Innovation 1129781 Position Summary Clinical Veterinarian provides clinical veterinary care activities within Campus Animal Resources (CAR). This position is responsible for daily delivery of comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and supportive veterinary care for laboratory animals used in research, teaching, and training programs. The role includes management of clinical cases identified in the research colonies; assist with disease surveillance and prevention programs; participate in various activities to ensure compliance with local and federal regulations and guidelines. This position provides professional veterinary expertise and regulatory support to the Attending Veterinarian, including development and interpretation of veterinary care and regulatory guidelines, and support for institutional compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body requirements. The Clinical Veterinarian collaborates closely with CAR veterinary and technical support staff to ensure consistent delivery of veterinary services, effective communication, and timely resolution of animal health issues. Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited School of Veterinary Medicine; postdoctoral training in laboratory animal medicine or one to three years of related experience that includes handling skills and diagnostic abilities specific to research animals; knowledge of Federal laws and regulations governing animal research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Veterinary license in at least one state with eligibility to include Michigan; and eligibility for Federal accreditation. Desired Qualifications Hold a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from an AVMA‑accredited or recognized school of veterinary medicine and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state, and with DEA licensure. Candidates should have minimum three (3) years of laboratory animal-specific veterinary experience, including expertise in rodent medicine, breeding colonies, and diverse research models.

The position requires demonstrated experience working collaboratively with principal investigators, research personnel, animal care staff, and students, as well as the ability to work independently and effectively across organizational units. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience with project management is desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to continued professional growth, including contributions to the profession through scholarly activities, research, and participation in regional or national professional organizations.
