Description Full-Time Associate Veterinarian Locally and Privately Owned Small Animal Hospital - Hillsdale, Michigan Are you a new graduate or early-career veterinarian looking for an affordable college town in Southern Michigan where you can find a career with true mentorship, strong support staff, and a positive, team-oriented culture? Or are you a seasoned veterinarian seeking a more flexible schedule and improved work-life balance? If so, this could be the right fit for you. We are a progressive, well-established, AAHA-accredited small animal hospital seeking a full-time Associate DVM who values high-quality, compassionate medicine in a collaborative, low-drama environment focused on patient care. Requirements About Our Practice We are a community-focused hospital providing comprehensive small animal care, including: Preventative and wellness medicine, advanced diagnostics, in-house Idexx laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiography, fluoroscopy, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, endoscopy, PRP therapy, surgical laser and cold laser therapy, chemotherapy, client education, and long-term care planning. Our modern facility features nine exam rooms, including two dedicated to cats, and three full-time doctors. Our experienced and engaged support team genuinely enjoys working together, which is reflected in our strong retention. We prioritize longer appointment times, thorough case workups, meaningful client communication, and a sustainable, balanced workload. We practice high-quality, intentional medicine—not high-volume, burnout medicine. What You Can Expect Appointments average 20 minutes. Each veterinarian is supported by 2-3 staff members and manages 10-14 cases per day, with a gradual increase to this caseload. Lunch breaks are protected, and there are no after-hours emergencies. We believe excellent medicine requires a healthy, supported doctor. Mentorship & Growth We are committed to developing confident, capable veterinarians through structured mentorship. Our mentorship includes a gradual schedule build-up, regular case reviews, hands-on surgical training, an open-door policy for questions and concerns, and ongoing feedback and support. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is curious, motivated, and eager to grow. They value teamwork and collaboration, communicate clearly and compassionately, appreciate mentorship, seek long-term client relationships, are committed to high-quality, ethical, evidence-based medicine, and demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic. Qualifications Qualifications include a DVM or VMD from an accredited veterinary school, a Michigan veterinary license (or eligibility), and a Controlled Substance License (or ability to obtain). Candidates should be proficient in general medicine, diagnostics, and treatment planning, be able to perform routine surgical procedures, and possess strong diagnostic, imaging, and case management skills. Also, experience with anesthesia, pain management, and post-operative care. Compensation & Benefits Our compensation is competitive, with bonus potential, and based on experience. We offer a base salary starting at $140,000, generous bonuses, and a full-time schedule of 32-36 hours per week. Benefits include an annual CE allowance with paid CE days, paid licenses and professional dues (AVMA, state, malpractice, and controlled substance), fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance with an HSA option, generous paid time off and holidays, a SIMPLE retirement plan with a 3% employer match, relocation assistance, personal pet discounts, and quality uniforms. Schedule & Work-Life Balance Our full-time schedule is 36-40 hours per week over 4-5 days , including two Saturday mornings per month. There are no after-hours or on-call emergency duties. We offer flexible scheduling, protected lunch breaks, and a supportive team culture. Why Join a Privately Owned Practice? You will receive direct mentorship from an experienced owner, enjoy clinical autonomy and decision-making freedom, and have no corporate quotas or production pressure. You will also have the opportunity to influence protocols and hospital growth.
