Relief Veterinarian (Shelter Medicine) Michigan Animal Rescue League - 3.3 Pontiac, MI Job Details Part-time | Contract 6 hours ago Qualifications Surgical techniques Veterinary soft tissue surgery Oral surgery Veterinary dentistry Veterinary License Cross-functional communication Full Job Description Relief Veterinarian (Shelter Medicine) Part-time, Relief or 1 Day/Week The Michigan Animal Rescue League is seeking a relief veterinarian to support our medical team. This role is ideal for a veterinarian looking for flexible, part-time focused on hands-on clinical care within an established shelter program. We have an existing veterinary structure in place, including established protocols, standards of care, and medical oversight. This role is designed to support those systems by providing high-quality veterinary services for animals in our care.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform high-volume spay/neuter surgeries (adult and pediatric)
  • Conduct dental procedures, including extractions
  • Perform physical exams and evaluate animals for medical concerns
  • Diagnose and treat illness as needed
  • Carry out humane euthanasia when appropriate
What This Role Looks Like:
  • Focused, hands-on clinical work in a fast-paced shelter environment
  • Working within established medical protocols and workflows
  • Collaboration with shelter leadership and staff to support medical needs
  • Flexibility in scheduling (relief coverage or consistent 1 day/week)
Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Michigan
  • Surgical experience required (spay/neuter and dentistry)
  • Shelter experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a high-volume setting
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
