Job Description

Emergency Associate Veterinarian Position•$10,000 Hiring Bonus, Relocation Assistance, Generous CE allowance Southpaw Veterinary Clinic and Emergency Care is a fast-paced veterinary clinic providing primary care (30%) and urgent care (70%) services to the West Omaha community. We are currently hiring emergency veterinarians to handle walk-in and overflow emergency cases, starting immediately. This position will start training during day shifts and will transition to overnights after all positions for the overnight service are filled. This growth in staff is one of the steps to prepared our care team for a dedicated emergency service set to open with our new hospital, due to open next winter. Southpaw Veterinary Clinic was founded with the focus on providing high-quality, inclusive veterinary care for all pets—from dogs and cats to birds, reptiles, fish, and more. Our team of veterinarians—Dr. Shrader, Dr. Lackovic, Dr. Passarella, Dr. McManigal, Dr. Grint, Dr. Hollis, Dr. Flanagan, Dr. Black, Dr. Gauntt, and Dr. Hinkle—is dedicated to maintaining high medical standards while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and positive work environment. Dr. Shrader and Dr. Hinkle sustain a robust companion zoological animal caseload, averaging 8 exotic cases each day with occasional visits from kangaroos, armadillos, reindeer, and other uncommonly held animals. The successful candidate for this position will be detail oriented, will thrive on variety, and will support and encourage a positive and supportive atmosphere. Additionally, they will need to show a high level of competence in veterinary medical skills and successfully maintain and active state veterinary license. The successful candidate for this position will have both an educational and experiential background in dogs and cats with some exotic patient experience preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
Nebraska Veterinary License (Required)•Certification from other states will be accepted but candidate will need to obtain NE state certification within 6 months of moving/starting employment.

Day Shift :
7:00 a.m.•3:00 p.m.
Swing Shift :
12:00 p.m.•10:00 p.m.
Overnight Shift:
10:00 p.m.•8:00 a.m. Our clinic welcomes a fascinating mix of traditional and non-traditional pets—from cats and dogs to birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. We provide farm and house call opportunities for certain non-traditional pets (large hoofstock, pot-bellied pigs, large tortoises, kangaroos, etc). The successful candidate for this position will have both an educational and experiential background in dogs and cats, with exotic patient experience preferred. On the job supplementary training will be provided in non-traditional patient care by Dr Trent Shrader. We are a 24 hour urgent care facility. Through collaboration with the full doctor team, doctors are only expected to work 2 holiday shifts each year. Our recognized holidays are New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. We substitute labor day for black friday to allow more staff to have a 4 day weekend for longer travel arrangements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in administering and monitoring anesthesia, performing radiographs, emergency or urgent surgery, and client education Have excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain and use radiologic equipment, electrocautery, ultrasound, and other essential medical equipment.
