The State Veterinarian role with the Department of Agriculture is a great chance to support the health and safety of horses at Presque Isle Downs. This position allows you to work directly with racehorses and contribute to fair competition. You will play a key part in protecting animal welfare while helping maintain proper racing standards. This position plays a key role in supporting the health, safety, and proper monitoring of horses at Presque Isle Downs. It involves supervising medical procedures, inspections, and record keeping to ensure compliance with the rules of racing. As a State Veterinarian, you will perform the following duties:Test Barn Oversight:
Supervise sample collection, manage records, and guide personnel in the post race detention barnPre-Race Monitoring:
Review eligible horses, supervise staff, and oversee proper administration of bleeder medicationHealth Inspections:
Conduct examinations of ship in horses and ensure accurate documentation of findingsRace Day Presence:
Observe horses in the paddock, during racing, and at the finish line to evaluate conditionMedical Decisions:
Assess horses for respiratory bleeding, manage the Veterinarian's List, and administer emergency care when neededRegulatory Support:

Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.Special Requirement:
