As the most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state, we impact more than 10,000 companion animals each year. To improve pet health and reduce overpopulation, the Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic provides subsidized spay/neuter surgery for Rhode Island cats and dogs. Job Details Full-Time or Part-Time hours available Competitive pay commensurate with experience Clinic is staffed Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 5:30pm, veterinarian schedule is flexible within those hours, occasional after-hours availability required. Work Location is 235 Elm Street, Warwick, RI Job Purpose The Spay and Neuter Clinic Veterinarian is responsible for daily care of all surgical patients and for ensuring that all clinic staff members are trained on and adhere to proper pre-, peri-, and post-operative patient care protocols. This role works closely with other veterinarians, support staff, clinic managers, and senior leadership. Sample Accountabilities Examine animals pre-operatively to determine their ability to safely undergo surgery Perform surgical sterilization procedures on dogs and cats in a high-volume, high-quality spay and neuter environment Examine animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing and recovery Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery Be available after hours to address post-operative complications Vaccinate animals and provide recommendations for follow-up care Provide medical oversight of clinic programs, including evaluation of medical, surgical, and disease control procedures Monitor clinic staff compliance with patient care protocols and safe clinic practices Adhere to DEA requirements for controlled substances and ensure responsible stewardship of drug and supply inventory Serve as a mentor for veterinary and veterinary technician students completing externships Communicate patient medical care issues and needs to clients as required Success Factors The person who will thrive in this role: Possesses a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Rhode Island Will work well independently while engaging, influencing, and mentoring others Values meaningful work and their positive impact on themselves, their colleagues, and the people and pets the Potter League serves.
