Job Description

What if you spent an entire career seeing only cats? Thirty years of veterinary experience. Twenty-six years devoted exclusively to feline medicine. Tens of thousands of feline patients. Internal medicine cases. Advanced dentistry. Ultrasounds. Pain management. Nutrition. Behavior. Geriatrics. Chronic disease management. Chiropractice care & End-of-life care. These are the reasons why Dr. Kim Leland built Cat Hospital of Austin. The hospital feels a little like your grandmother's house, warm, inviting, and somehow familiar from the moment you walk through the door. Don't worry, there isn't plastic on the furniture, but there is usually coffee brewing and a cat sun bathing in the window. Dr. Leland did this purposefully because she believed cats deserved something different. Twenty-six years later, that house is still here. We still only see cats. We still gather around ultrasounds. We still spend extra time discussing difficult cases. We still get excited about internal medicine. We still ask "why?" When experienced veterinary professionals walk through our doors they say: "I didn't realize how much I didn't know about cats." We hear it over and over again. Because spending your career seeing only cats changes the way you practice medicine. Cat Hospital of Austin is a feline-exclusive practice located in a house in Austin, Texas. We are intentionally small, deeply collaborative, and unlike almost every other veterinary hospital you will visit. Dr. Leland's knowledge of cats is truly exceptional. She is board certified in feline chiropractic care, highly experienced in feline dentistry, extensively trained in ultrasound, and possesses a level of feline medical knowledge that only comes from dedicating nearly three decades exclusively to cats. We often say we are specialty medicine without being specialty. We are not a referral center. We are not a corporate hospital. We are not a boutique practice. We are simply a group of people who are deeply curious about cats and committed to practicing excellent medicine. We can be internal medicine heavy. We are diagnostic driven. We are endlessly curious. Our clients seek us out because they want answers. Most approve diagnostics. They pursue treatment plans. They ask questions. They want to understand disease processes and partner in their cat's care. Because of that, we gather incredible amounts of knowledge and experience. Some of the medications, supplements, treatment protocols, and discussions that happen in our hospital routinely surprise experienced veterinarians and technicians. We read studies. We discuss cases. We challenge old assumptions. We try new therapies. We ask questions. We genuinely enjoy medicine. There is fascinating data that comes out of a hospital that sees this volume of feline medicine. The sheer number of cats we see allows us to observe trends, evaluate therapies, and continually improve the way we practice.

We believe exceptional medicine and financial success are not mutually exclusive. We are not interested in sacrificing medicine for arbitrary production goals, rushing appointments, or measuring success solely by transactions. At the same time, this is not a place to coast. Our clients are invested. Our team is engaged. Our medicine is collaborative. We expect our doctors to practice excellent medicine, communicate effectively, pursue diagnostics appropriately, and help clients make informed decisions. When you practice exceptional medicine, production follows naturally. This is not a position for someone looking to simply see appointments and go home.

The right veterinarian will find this environment incredibly rewarding. Our Hospital Feline-exclusive practice, In-house IDEXX laboratory, Ultrasound capabilities Ultrasound-trained staff, Internal medicine focused, personalized health insurance stipen, Advanced feline dentistry mentorship. Free telemedicine visits, Hundreds of hours of continuing education through Veterinary Growth Partners, Strong commitment to continuing education, Open Tuesday through Friday only Meet Your Team Dr.
