This position is ideal for candidates located within approximately 45 minutes of downtown Dallas due to the nature of the collection and scheduling needs. Previous exotic animal or zoological experience is highly valued; however, candidates with a strong willingness to learn, excellent communication skills, and a positive team-oriented attitude are encouraged to apply. This opportunity offers hands-on exposure to a broad range of species while working alongside experienced veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs), biologists, animal managers, and senior husbandry staff. DWA maintains strong professional relationships within the zoological community and accredited institutions, providing opportunities for continued professional development, collaboration, and networking with other accredited zoological facilities and professionals. We currently have Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) on staff to assist with daily operations, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia support, and animal handling. Scheduling is flexible, and we are willing to work with the right candidate to develop a schedule that fits both the institution's needs and the veterinarian's availability. Responsibilities Clinical veterinary care for a diverse zoological collection Preventative medicine and diagnostics Medical recordkeeping and regulatory compliance Collaboration with animal care and husbandry departments Participation in emergency and on-call rotations as needed Support of quarantine, nutrition, and preventative health programs Qualifications DVM or equivalent veterinary degree Texas veterinary license (or ability to obtain) preferred Strong interest in exotic, zoological, or wildlife medicine Ability to work within a collaborative professional environment Experience in zoological medicine is welcomed but not required What We Offer Flexible scheduling options Support from experienced LVT staff and animal care professionals Opportunity to work with one of the most diverse animal collections in the region Mentorship from experienced zoological professionals Exposure to advanced exotic animal medicine and husbandry Networking opportunities with accredited zoological institutions Collaborative learning environment with highly trained biologists and animal professionals
