Job Description
Veterinarian - Shelter Medicine Vancouver, Washington (Portland Metro Area) Full-Time About the Role We are seeking an experienced Shelter Veterinarian to join a well-established and growing animal welfare organization. This role focuses on delivering high-quality medical and surgical care to companion animals in a mission-driven, fast-paced shelter environment. The position is ideal for veterinarians with strong experience in high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) and shelter medicine who are comfortable working with diverse populations and making population-level care decisions. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive veterinary care for shelter animals, foster animals, and community-owned pets Perform high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and other soft tissue procedures Deliver diagnostics, treatment, and preventive care within scope-of-care guidelines Collaborate with veterinary and operations teams on treatment planning and population health decisions Support community programs offering subsidized veterinary care Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with regulatory standards Assist in training and mentoring veterinary staff and support teams Contribute to SOP development and continuous process improvement Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices Required Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent Eligible for veterinary licensure in Washington State Required Experience & Skills Strong shelter medicine experience (required) Proven experience in high-volume spay/neuter surgery (HQHVSN) Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving ability Comfort working in emotionally demanding environments Schedule & Work Environment 4-day work week (10-hour shifts) Includes one weekend day No on-call or overnight responsibilities Work performed in a shelter setting with exposure to animals, noise, and medical environments
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
