Job Description

Foreman - Heavy Civil ConstructionPosition Summary We are seeking an experienced Foreman to join our Heavy Civil Construction team. This position is responsible for leading field crews in the installation of municipal water and sewer systems while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company and client expectations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive underground utility experience, and the ability to work effectively in high-risk trenching and excavation environments. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate daily field operations for municipal water and sewer installation projects. Lead crews in the safe and efficient installation of underground utility systems including water mains, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and related infrastructure. Plan and oversee trenching and excavation activities in highly hazardous environments, including areas with existing utilities and congested underground conditions. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, excavation standards, and project specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, utility plans, grade stakes, and project specifications. Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to maintain project schedules and productivity goals. Identify potential risks and proactively implement solutions to mitigate delays, safety hazards, and operational issues. Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, inspectors, engineers, municipalities, subcontractors, vendors, and customers. Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, safety documentation, and project communication. Foster a positive team environment while mentoring and developing crew members. Make sound field decisions independently while maintaining alignment with company objectives and leadership direction. Ensure projects maintain high standards of workmanship, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Travel to local and out-of-state job sites as required. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of experience in municipal water systems and underground utility construction. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Foreman or leadership role within heavy civil construction. Extensive experience installing water and sewer systems. Strong knowledge of trenching, excavation, utility locating, and safe work practices in hazardous underground conditions. Experience working around existing utilities including gas, electric, fiber, communication, and other underground infrastructure. Thorough understanding of OSHA excavation and trench safety requirements. Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and grade information. Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, municipalities, inspectors, and customers. Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining safety and schedule commitments. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and lead crews effectively. Valid driver's license with the ability and willingness to travel locally and out of state as needed. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30 Certification or acquire within 30 days of employment. Experience operating heavy equipment and underground utility installation equipment. CDL preferred but not required. Experience with municipal, DOT, and public works projects. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and lift materials and equipment as required by the job. $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
