Job Description

Hopkins County Landfill is seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our landfill operations team in White Plains, KY. This role is essential to keeping our equipment running safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental & operational standards. The ideal candidate is experienced with large, diesel-powered machinery, comfortable working outdoors, and committed to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy equipment such as compactors, dozers, loaders, excavators, haul trucks, and other landfill machinery. Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Conduct inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures. Complete preventive maintenance schedules and maintain accurate service records. Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and perform on‑site repairs. Operate equipment as needed to test functionality after repairs. Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. Collaborate with operators and supervisors to identify equipment issues early. Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe conditions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment to support efficient workflow and uphold company standards. Assist with ordering parts, tracking inventory, and managing repair documentation. Other job related duties as assigned.
What we need from you:
Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment diagnostics. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment. Valid driver's license. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb onto equipment, and perform manual tasks. What you'll get from us:
