Every incoming load is carefully weighed at our state‑of‑the‑art scale house and directed to the active landfill phase for thorough screening and proper disposal. Atomic Sand, LLC, also part of the Williams Family Companies, is a premier sand mining operation producing nuclear‑grade aggregate and high‑quality sand products for the Aiken, SC; Augusta, GA; and greater CSRA region. Named for the nearby nuclear reactor project that required exceptionally pure material, Atomic Sand continues to exceed these standards through rigorous onsite testing and a highly skilled workforce. Role Overview We are currently seeking two experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanics for full‑time positions—one based at our Beech Island, SC site and one at our Graniteville, SC site. Standard operating hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PM (approximately 50 hours per week), with occasional Saturday overtime based on operational needs. We are looking for dependable, safety‑focused individuals with strong mechanical expertise and a commitment to maintaining safe, efficient operations. Compensation ranges from $22-$25 per hour, depending on experience. Position Summary The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy machinery and industrial equipment used in mining and wash plant operations. This role ensures equipment reliability, supports production goals, and upholds all MSHA and company safety standards. Work is performed outdoors and in industrial environments with exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and heavy machinery. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with conveyors, pumps, wash plant components, heavy equipment, and dredge systems. Williams C&D Landfill, Inc. and Atomic Sand, LLC both strictly adhere to all Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standards to ensure a safe and compliant working environment. Whether operating a bulldozer at Williams C&D Landfill or maintaining heavy equipment at Atomic Sand, employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of machinery, performing routine maintenance checks, and following all safety protocols at all times. These roles require strong mechanical understanding, excellent hand‑eye coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Key responsibilities include operating equipment safely, performing adjustments or repairs as needed, maintaining equipment in good working condition, and communicating effectively with team members to support smooth daily operations. A commitment to safety, problem‑solving skills, and consistent situational awareness are essential across both companies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, conveyors, pumps, dredge components, and wash plant systems. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and structural issues; perform corrective repairs to reduce downtime. Conduct preventive maintenance, including lubrication, greasing, fluid checks, refueling, and DEF replenishment. Perform welding and fabrication to repair or modify equipment and plant structures. Operate and maintain mechanical, welding, and fabrication tools safely and effectively. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and support continuous production operations. Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records. Follow all MSHA, company, and environmental safety protocols. Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency drills. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, including two‑way radio use. Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure job sites remain safe and hazard‑free. Adapt to changing job site conditions and assist with additional operational tasks as needed. Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects unassisted. Frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in tight or awkward positions. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around water (swimming ability or willingness to wear a life jacket preferred). Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and industrial hazards. Ability to remain alert, aware, and safety‑focused at all times. Qualifications Proven experience in heavy equipment, industrial, or mining maintenance. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment. Experience with conveyors, pumps, wash plants, and hydraulic systems preferred. Welding and fabrication experience required. Ability to perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections. Skilled in safe operation of hand and power tools. Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram‑based instructions. Strong problem‑solving skills, hand‑eye coordination, and spatial awareness. Team‑oriented with the ability to work independently. Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols. Must pass a drug screen. High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Dependable, punctual, and consistent attendance required.
