Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE
: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as winches, diesel and electric hydraulic power units, spoolers, cranes, forklifts, and vehicles. Work may be done on both Rasmussen or customer owned equipment in a Rasmussen shop or in the field. Heavy Equipment Mechanics will sometimes provide technical expertise & advice to customers and other Rasmussen team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consistently use appropriate PPE for all tasks to maintain a safe work environment Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects. Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices. Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools. Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions, hydraulic systems components, and fuel systems, using hand tools, jacks, cranes, and power tools. Install, maintain, diagnose issues and repair of industrial diesel engines. Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Standing and walking for extended periods Frequent use of hands to handle and grip objects Bend and reach with hands and arms Operate foot controls as needed Occasionally climb ladders, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crouching, and crawling This role also requires the ability to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
