The Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of heavy equipment in the maintenance, repair, replacement, and development of the streets and drainage systems, water distribution and sewer collection systems, or parkland and recreation facilities. This is accomplished by operating tractor backhoes, crane hoists, motor graders, gradall, crack sealers, tractors for mowing, gas and electrical metal welders, hydraulic sewer main cleaners and/or other equipment and machinery. Other duties include assisting other departments and divisions as necessary.

Completion of a Confined Space course through an accredited training facility. Work requires unusual hours and the ability to be on call after business hours.
Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regulations, traffic safety, and traffic control. Applications will be accepted until May 20, 2026.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Public Works Streets and Drainage Team maintains 209 miles of streets, 36 miles of drainage ditches, gutters, street curbs, and medians, 2,662 curb inlets, 107 miles of drainage, and 12 miles of box culvert pipe.The Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of heavy equipment in the maintenance, repair, replacement, and development of the streets and drainage systems, water distribution and sewer collection systems, or parkland and recreation facilities. Work requires the knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency. Up to two years of relevant experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a minimum Class B commercial Texas Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within twelve (12) months of employment.Completion of a Confined Space course through an accredited training facility.
