Job Description
Position Overview The Wallace County Road & Bridge Department is seeking skilled and reliable Road Maintenance Equipment Operators to help maintain and improve county dirt and gravel roads. This position involves operating a variety of heavy equipment, including road graders, tractors with mowers, front-end loaders, and semi-trucks for hauling materials. Typical schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. MST. (Winter severe weather requires some weekend/Holiday hours.) Key Responsibilities Operate road graders to shape, level, and maintain dirt and gravel roads. Use tractors and mowers to cut weeds and vegetation along roadways and ditches. Operate loaders to move gravel, dirt, and other materials for road maintenance. Drive county semi-trucks and haul materials such as gravel and equipment as needed. Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment. Monitor road conditions and report maintenance or safety issues to supervisors. Assist with other road maintenance tasks, including snow removal, drainage work, and signage installation. Qualifications Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) required—Class A or B preferred. Experience operating heavy equipment such as graders, tractors, mowers, and loaders. Ability to work independently and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Basic mechanical knowledge for routine equipment checks and minor repairs. Strong safety awareness and attention to detail. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor as required. Requirements Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening. Willingness to participate in ongoing safety and equipment training. Availability for emergency road work, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed. Compensation & Benefits Competitive wage based on experience.
