Heavy Highway Pavement Marking Position:
Traffic Safety Worker Job Summary The Traffic Safety Worker works as part of a crew to perform a variety of duties related to the maintenance and installation of pavement markings on highways, roadways, airport runways, taxiways, and other project sites. This position requires physical labor, equipment operation, attention to safety, and the ability to work in active traffic and other hazardous environments. Essential Functions Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: Drive, operate, and maintain pavement marking trucks and related equipment used for applying markings on highways, roadways, airport runways, taxiways, and other surfaces. Operate and maintain airless walk-behind paint stripers used to apply traffic stripes and pavement markings. Perform manual labor using hand tools, equipment, and other job-related materials. Drive utility trucks and other company vehicles as directed. Load and unload equipment, supplies, and materials. Perform daily equipment and vehicle inspections as required. Follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors, foremen, project managers, and other company representatives. Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, project managers, engineers, contractors, and other jobsite representatives. Follow all company safety policies, including the Company Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Employee Safety Handbook. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Required Capabilities The employee must be able to: Speak, read, and write in English. Perform manual work while following verbal and written instructions. Work independently and as part of a crew. Communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers, supervisors, project managers, engineers, contractors, and other representatives. Stand, walk, climb, kneel, squat, bend at the waist, grasp, hold tools, and perform repetitive physical movements for extended periods of time. Lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more on a repeated basis. Work safely and remain alert in active traffic, construction zones, airport environments, and other hazardous jobsite conditions. Work Environme nt Regular job duties are performed in difficult and frequently hazardous environments, including but not limited to: Active highways, roadways, and construction zones. Airport runways, taxiways, and related work areas. Heavy traffic situations. Daytime and nighttime work. Temperature extremes, including heat, cold, wind, and direct sunlight. Exposure to noise from traffic, airports, construction equipment, and related jobsite activity. Exposure to paint, marking materials, equipment, dust, fumes, and other conditions commonly associated with pavement marking and highway construction work. Qualifications and Requirements Must be willing to join the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 673. Must remain current on union dues and maintain good standing with the union. Must possess, or be willing and able to obtain, a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License, Class A or Class B, with air brake endorsement. Must have a clean DMV driving record or otherwise be acceptable to the Company's insurance provider. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Must be able to comply with company safety requirements, jobsite rules, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Prior pavement marking, construction, traffic control, equipment operation, or CDL driving experience is preferred but not required unless otherwise stated by the Company. Physical Requirements This position requires heavy physical labor. The employee must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including: Standing and walking for long periods. Repeated bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching, grasping, and lifting. Lifting and moving objects weighing 75 pounds or more. Working around moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and live traffic. Working during day or night shifts as required by project schedules.
