Work requires ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on vehicles or equipment's th may be supported by jacks, stands, or hoists. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 lbs. (9.1 kg) and occasionally up to 45 lbs. (20.41 kg). Crewmember work requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and reaching, and the ability to concentre for extended periods. Exerts considerable effort while opering switching, braking and coupling devices, while climbing aboard railcars or locomotive, while they are moving (especially in adverse weher conditions), while moving objects on railways, and while walking to perform tasks. Uses good hand-eye coordinion and depth perception to position locomotive and railcars. May lift and carry items weighing up to 45 lbs. frequently while walking on rail ties, rail, ballast, uneven terrain etc.WORKING CONDITIONS
Works as a mechanic primarily inside lighted and heed shop but occasionally is subject to working in unheed and poorly lighted warehouses and outside in all weher conditions. Works on concrete floors, asphalt, uneven terrain and ballast. Work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Subject to cuts, bruises, electrical shocks, burns, smashed fingers, broken bones, and diesel exhaust fumes. Works inside the locomotive cab and outside on the locomotive, railcars, roadbed, tracks and other outdoor areas. Frequently is exposed to unpleasant weher conditions, extreme temperures; diesel exhaust fumes, odors and treed railroad ties; noise from opering locomotive and equipment on locomotive railcars. Subject to possible serious injury or deh from train derailments or other accidents; from falls while boarding, walking on or leaving, standing or moving railcars; while working or walking on railroad ties or rails; while coupling or uncoupling air brake hoses; and while opering switch equipment. Subject to discomfort or injury from jarring and jolting from train movements, especially when coupling cars or walking on rough track or loose roadbeds.
