Job Description

High School Counselor/eSchool Director Hermitage School District Job Description Summary The School District Counselor leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program aligned to the district's vision and mission. This program is student-centered, preventative in design, and developmental in nature, supporting students' academic achievement, career readiness, and social-emotional growth through direct and indirect services. In accordance with Arkansas law and DESE guidelines, the counselor ensures program compliance, supports staff through professional development, and maintains transparent, up-to-date counseling plans for the district. Physical Qualifications Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the school day Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and reach to access files and materials Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 10-15 pounds Ability to use a computer and other office equipment for extended periods Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through written communication Ability to respond appropriately in emergency or crisis situations, which may require quick movement Responsibilities and Duties Responsibilities of the High School Counselor / eSchool Director include, but are not limited to, the following: Student Success and Guidance Develop the Student Success Plan (SSP) program and timelines in collaboration with the administration Implement the Launch program Coordinate Student Success Plans (SSPs) Train teachers to advise students regarding SSPs Conduct individual and group counseling sessions addressing academic, personal, social, and career needs Advocate for students as needed Refer students and families to outside agencies and support services as appropriate Provide orientation for new students Student Support and School Leadership Serve on the Building Leadership Team Serve on the SPRINT Team May serve on the District Leadership Team Serve as a member of the School IEP Team Implement positive, proactive social, emotional, and mental health supports for students Facilitate drug prevention efforts Coordinate court-related matters and file court petitions as needed Update, implement, and evaluate the School Counseling Plan Coordinate with the Homeless and Foster Care Liasons Coordinate graduation activities: order awards, create programs, plan for assemblies Coordinate college visits and career activities. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with the principal, migrant/ELL coordinator, special education teacher, LEA supervisor, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, and math/literacy facilitators to ensure accurate student records, grade placement, classroom placement, accommodations, grades, testing scores, and appropriate student testing Collaborate with classroom teachers to distribute test scores and other pertinent student information Collaborate with community members, students, and families to provide assistance and school-related information, including but not limited to Smart Core, ACT Aspire and other state testing programs, FAFSA, college applications, and YOUniversal Invite and schedule guest speakers on topics including, but not limited to, anti-bullying, safety, drug and alcohol abuse, careers, and college recruitment Send news articles and school information to local publications Student Records and Scheduling Register and withdraw students Maintain permanent records and transcripts Maintain eSchool, including but not limited to entering and withdrawing students, Highly Qualified Teacher status, master schedule, course SIS data, corrections, student schedules, course additions and drops, GPA calculations, class rank, and maintenance of room and staff information Generate reports from eSchool and Cognos, including but not limited to class lists, state reports, report cards, transcripts, GPA/rank summaries, and enrollment reports Technology and Systems Management Assign teachers and staff within eSchool and assign appropriate rights and roles Assist teachers and staff with eSchool logins, passwords, minor login issues, and report generation Assign user rights to teachers and staff in Triand Serve as eSchool Director for the district with emphasis on grades 7-12. Testing and Accountability Assist the Test Coordinator and administrator for all state testing, scheduling exams for teachers and students in accordance with the Arkansas Department of Education rules and regulations Digital Learning and Program Coordination Coordinate and schedule the digital learning program with facilitators, teachers, students, Virtual Arkansas, and SEACBEC Professional Development Provide professional development, including but not limited to suicide prevention and awareness, Smart Core, and child maltreatment Attend professional development related to school guidance and counseling to obtain updated resources and information
Contracted Days:
The Hermitage School Counselor is required to work a minimum of 210 days. The Hermitage High School Counselor is required to work an additional 15 contract days to perform additional high school duties. The District eSchool Director is required to work an additional 15 contract days Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee Positions are open until the posting is removed from the website, are filled, or expire. At a minimum, employment eligibility requirements are to be over the age of 16 and provide a driver's license and social security card or other documentation of eligibility to work in the United States of America. Applicants for certified positions must have appropriate certification with the ADE, DESE or eligible to obtain such. All applicants must be willing to undergo background and child maltreatment checks and other screenings as required by the Hermitage School District.
