The High School Principal leads the high school with a clear vision, transparency and high expectations by building collaborative, trusting relationships. The High School Principal is instrumental in creating a school that inspires and develops a nurturing climate and culture, and continuously improves access to high-quality education for 9-12 students. The High School Principal must have the courage to make difficult decisions and is someone who is a true advocate for students and staff development The Brandon School District is looking for a secondary principal who: Is intrinsically motivated Has a deep desire to grow professionally Believes children deserve to learn in an environment that is the least restrictive with the highest level of cultural competence Possesses a strong work ethic Is committed to providing children with boundless opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate Valid Michigan Administration Certificate Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related discipline 5+ years of teaching experience 3+ years in an administrative leadership role, preferably at the secondary level
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional verbal and written skills for interacting with diverse groups, including staff, students, parents and community members Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in teamwork and collaborative working relationships Skilled in interpreting data (test scores, behavior reports) to make informed decisions Ability to mediate disputes constructively among staff, students, and parents Ability to handle multiple, high-priority tasks simultaneously and under pressure Experience with educational management software, Microsoft Office and Google suite Ability to provide instructional leadership for staff and students Ability to build a Master Schedule that affords a wide variety of academic opportunities for high school students Knowledgeable about Professional Learning Communities, alternative instructional assessment strategies, instructional technology, learning pedagogies, and
MiStar Responsibilities:
Leads and delivers a high school program that meets the educational needs of each student; implements clearly defined systems and consistent practices to foster a transparent, healthy and safe learning environment for all staff and students Adheres to all State and Federal compliance laws as it relates to graduation requirements, fiscal responsibilities, and school health and safety Communicates with colleagues and school community members in a manner which is consistent with district and school expectations Assists in planning, documenting, and managing materials and resources that is consistent with district expectations Provides employee supervision, which ensures high expectations for productivity and integrity and maintains an environment that is well-organized and focused on the district's mission, vision, and goals Makes recommendations to Human Resources for hiring high school staff and provides a comprehensive onboarding process at the building level Manages all building security and staff procedures, including evacuation and emergency plans Supervises and evaluates certified secondary staff, ensuring that the proper elements of instruction are implemented; coordinates the teacher supervision and evaluation processes with the assistant principal Shared responsibility for driving best instructional practices and evaluating all staff in compliance with the law, using the Charlotte Danielson evaluation tool Serves as an effective instructional leader who communicates the philosophy, goals, and objectives of a high school program, to all stakeholders with a high level of integrity and fidelity Plans, implements, communicates and oversees registration, orientation, and Parent/Teacher conferences; supervises athletic events, evening school functions, and attends school-related community events Implements State and National Assessments (MME, PLAN, PSAT, NWEA, AP, Test Out, etc.) Provides administrative support and engages in best practices for populations and programs that include, but are not limited to, general education, Students with Individualized Education Plans (IDPs), MultiTiered Support Systems (MTSS), 504 Plans and English Language Learners (ELL) Ensures that all Board Policies and administrative guidelines are effectively implemented in the classroom and at the building level In absence of the Assistant Principal, responsible for student management including discipline and attendance; works directly with teachers in monitoring student behavior to maintain a healthy building climate Responds to and resolves complaints and grievances of students, staff and parents Develops building objectives and procedures to facilitate the delivery of programs, student discipline, scheduling and recordkeeping Coordinates various District programs with the regular education program Performs other such duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
